Although I find sketch noting to be a unique and interesting method of taking notes, I personally find it to be a distraction. However, I did find the idea of summarizing my learning with a mind map from the “Sketching for College Students” video to be useful. I have now created a mind map folder for all of my classes and believe it will greatly benefit me in the future.
The three multimedia learning principles discussed in class this week were interesting and relevant to me. Out of Mayer’s 12 multimedia learning principles, I find that I intuitively use the personalization principle the most while studying. I have found that studying with classmates and having conversations about the material is more beneficial for me than just reading the material alone. However, I do find that I may not always adhere to the image principle, which states that including one’s own image while recording screencasts or presentations can be distracting and instead, using relevant photos would be more beneficial for learning.
In the future, I will consider incorporating sketch noting in my classes, but I need to find a way to integrate it into my learning style. I believe it can be beneficial in some classes, but not all.
