Multimedia refers to using various forms of media such as text, audio, images, videos, and animations to convey information or messages. In multimedia learning, several principles guide the design and development of multimedia materials to optimize learning outcomes. These principles include the redundancy principle, coherence principle, signalling principle, contiguity principle, and Mayers 12 principles.
For my revision I have chosen a video I made at the beginning of the semester about the 8 Cs’ of business writing.
When creating a presentation, it’s important to keep in mind the design principles that can help make it more effective. In this case, I have used several of these principles to improve my slides and overall presentation to make it more inclusive and multimedia focused.
One of principle I employed was the redundancy principle. Rather than including redundant text in their slides, I highlighted errors in the text, making them more noticeable and reinforcing important points. This approach helps keep my audience focused on the key information rather than getting hung up on extraneous details.
Another design principle that was utilized was the spatial contiguity principle. I did this by keeping images and information close together in the slides, This ensured that the presentation looked clean and organized. When information is spread out or difficult to locate, it can cause confusion and become frustration among the audience. By using the spatial contiguity principle, I have made it easy for viewers to quickly access and understand the information they need.
The format of the presentation is also important. By using a clean and simple format, I was able to create a visually appealing presentation that was easy to navigate. This helped to keep the audience engaged and focused on the content rather than getting distracted by unnecessary design elements.
Another design principle that was utilized was the temporal contiguity principle. By providing a voiceover for the presentation, I allowed viewers to listen to the content while also viewing the slides. This helped to keep the audience engaged and focused on the material, rather than becoming distracted by other stimuli.
The multimedia principle was also employed in this presentation. By relying on images rather than text, I ensured that the information was easy to understand and remember. Images are often more memorable than text, making this an effective approach to presenting the information.
Finally, I used my own voice rather than an automated message, aligning with the voice principle. By using my own voice, I was able to add a personal touch to the presentation, helping to establish a connection with the audience and keeping them engaged throughout.
Through my slides, I used several design principles to create an effective and engaging presentation. By employing these principles, I was able to make the presentation more visually appealing, easier to understand, and more engaging overall. The presentation was informative, memorable, and effective in achieving my goals.
