Hello, my name is Morgan Bender and I am a commerce student at the University of Victoria with a passion for marketing. Growing up in the beautiful coastal city of West Vancouver, I was fortunate to have access to a diverse range of activities and experiences. From a young age, I was heavily involved in sports, particularly field hockey and swimming. This passion for athleticism taught me the value of hard work, dedication, and teamwork, all of which have helped shape who I am today.
As I progressed through my education, my interests evolved to include the world of business and marketing. I am constantly seeking new ways to improve my knowledge and skills in these areas. I have always had a passion for business since a young age. I recall reading my dad’s economic textbooks, and not understanding a thing inside of them. Even though highschool I never took the average electives such as, foods, woodwork, or textiles, but id take entrepreneurship, accounting, and commerce instead. I am now in the process of completing my degree in Commerce.
In my free time, you can find me at the gym, exploring the great outdoors, or indulging in my creative side by knitting. I am always looking for new ways to challenge myself and grow as a person. I am super excited to continue this class and learn more.
Prior to this lesson I have never heard of the ‘Principles of Cognitive Theory of Multimedia Learning’. After learning about this, the one I found most interesting was ‘Coherence Principal’, it talks about how adding too much effect to something can make it confusing. in the video by wisc-online it showed an extreme example of this, by showing an over complicated circle with lots of sounds and. colours and shapes. I find this very relevant to my degree, in specific my passion for marketing. It is very important to keep things simple so that people understand the message, and its significance. The main goals of the coherence principal is to avoid unrelated words, graphics, and sounds; avoid on screen action that is unrelated; use concise, well thought out content; and to use content that is relevant.
